Questions and answers related to funding
Companies in Vienna can apply to receive funding from the Vienna Business Agency. Our funding is financial aid that we pay out in support of novel development proposals submitted by businesses and founders in Vienna. You can use the funding to realise development proposals that you may never have ventured into without this type of support.
Contact us. Find your funding expert on the webpage featuring the particular funding you're interested in applying for.
During a consultation, a funding expert will tell you whether your development proposal meets the formal criteria. Find your funding expert by going to the webpage featuring the particular funding you're interested in applying for.
To receive funding, you will need to submit a funding application. Consult with your funding expert to get the information you need, submit your application online, and – this is important – don't make any investments until after you've submitted a complete application. This is because the Vienna Business Agency provides funding only for development proposals that start after the application has been submitted.
Your development proposal should be an innovation in the market or for your company. The Vienna Business Agency funds development proposals and not day-to-day operating costs. Make the cost calculation for your development proposal as detailed as possible.
Funding is paid out only after you’ve received official approval. Your project must not start until after you have submitted the complete funding application.
The decision is made by a jury based on well-defined assessment criteria. Depending on the funding programme, it can take up to four months to find out whether your development proposal will be funded.
The maximum funding amounts vary depending on the type of funding. Ask your funding expert about the funding details before you submit your application.
The co-funding rate is the percentage of a development proposal's eligible costs that will be funded. The co-funding rate varies depending on the type of funding. To give you an example: If the co-funding rate is 50% and we recognise 100,000 euros as your project costs, the Vienna Business Agency will pay 50,000 euros.
You can submit your funding application via our online portal – it's convenient and always available. To do so, you must register on our website and create a profile. In your profile, select "My submissions" and "New application". Funding accounts will also be settled via our online system.
Our funding focuses on development proposals that promote climate protection, employment, diversity and digitalisation in Vienna.
In the European Union, aid (including subsidies) is possible on the basis of various regulations. One of these is the de minimis rule. According to this rule, you and your company may not receive more than 300,000 euros in subsidies in Austria within three years.
A company can apply for funding by itself or jointly with other companies, research institutions, associations, universities, and universities of applied sciences. A lead partner is in charge of coordinating the application submission and – if funding is awarded – of managing the project and communicating with the Vienna Business Agency and the partners for the entire project duration.
